Arrest Made in Atlanta Carjacking
ATLANTA, Ga. - Atlanta police said Monday that they have a new lead, as they search for the men responsible for several violent crimes, including a murder in Virginia-Highland. Investigators said they had a person of interest in custody and at least one thing could connect him to a murder.
Investigators said security camera video that showed two men filling up an SUV with gas on November 19th put them on the police radar for some very serious crimes.
Hours before the video was taken, police say the Toyota SUV had been carjacked at gunpoint.
Three days later, the SUV was found abandoned at a MARTA station.
Investigators said they found evidence inside the vehicle, linking it to the murder of Charles Boyer. Boyer was killed near an apartment complex in Virginia-Highland last Monday night.
Investigators said that evidence made the men persons of interest.
On Monday, Atlanta police said a man wearing a red shirt on surveillance video was identified, thanks to a crime stoppers tip.
The man was taken into custody and held on a probation violation, but his name has not been released, while investigators continue to look for evidence.
Investigators are still searching for a second man seen on the surveillance video. Police say the man was seen in the video with dreadlocks under a gray hat. Police said they want to find the man as soon as possible.
Atlanta police say their detectives worked through the weekend and the Thanksgiving holiday to get to this point in the investigation.
The Crimestoppers reward has been increased from $2,000 to $10,000 for information that leads to a conviction.
