Arctic Winter Air Blasts Metro Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. - Cold weather has made its way to the Metro Atlanta area, and it’s not going away anytime soon. An arctic blast moved into north Georgia just in time for the work week, making it unbearable to be outside for many residents.
Temperatures were about 20 degrees colder than average on Monday, FOX 5 meteorologist Joanne Feldman said. Strong winds have been doing a number on the metro area since Sunday, with temperatures only reaching the upper 30s in the city of Atlanta on Monday. In many places to the north, it was even colder than that.
Couple the cold temps with the strong winds felt all across the area, and it felt more like February than early December. Winds in Atlanta reached nearly 30 mph in some locations, making the wind chill factor in the 20s. Earlier Monday, that number was in the teens.
Feldman says skies will remain clear, but temperatures oveight on Monday will be even cooler than they were Sunday night. In fact, some parts of the FOX 5 viewing area could see wind chills in the single digits oveight. The gusty winds aren’t going anywhere either.
There’s no relief in sight for the work week as far as temperatures go. Feldman says things won’t warm up until at least Thursday or Friday, and more arctic air is expected to make its way to Metro Atlanta and North Georgia early next week. Things are expected to remain dry for now due to a high-pressure system to the west.
