APS special needs bus crashes into fence
A special needs Atlanta Public School bus was involved in a crash Friday moing.
The crash happened around 7:18 a.m. on Moreland Avenue and Custer Avenue in DeKalb County. News Chopper 2 flew over the scene as rescuers arrived with a stretcher.
There were nine students on the bus during the crash, but none of them were injured, APS spokesman Keith Bromery said. The bus was transporting students to Benteen and Centennial Place elementary schools, Washington High School and Imagine Wesley Inteational Academy charter school and ran off the road into a fence, Bromery said.
The driver was taken to Grady Hospital for observation.
”She looked like she banged her head pretty bad, witness Nada London said.
Residents watched as a tow truck struggled to get the bus out of the mud and onto the pavement near the Manor Partners Five apartment complex. London, a sales manager at the complex, said she spoke to students just before another bus arrived to take them to school.
”They said they felt wobbling, and then the bus just went out of control and hit the fence, London said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
