Alpharetta city councilman Michael Cross accused of domestic abuse
An Alpharetta city councilman is facing charges after allegedly harming his wife during an argument.
Police report shows that councilman Michael Cross’ wife called 911 on Feb. 23 to report the incident.
”My husband just threw a trashcan at me, Laurie Cross can be heard telling a 911 dispatcher. ”Previously he’s broken my finger. He took my cell phone and I had to run downstairs.
When police arrived to the home, the report said Cross had left already. A detective noted swelling and bruising on Ms. Cross’s face.
”My lip is bleeding, she told dispatchers.
The report said Cross’ wife admitted to having a vodka and cranberry drink, and that she was irritated that her husband hadn’t completed some tasks.
When she confronted him, she said the argument started.
”Cross stated his wife has an ‘Irish Temper,’ gets upset very quickly and is very demanding, the report stated, the councilman told police. ”She flung the toilet bowl brush and holder in his direction.
Still, detectives determined that Cross threw the trash can at his wife’s face during the argument and caused a minor injury.
The report said that Ms. Cross explained the ”broken finger comment from the 911 call was in reference to a fight she started in Dec. 2014. She said Cross was taking cell phone video of her and that she caused an injury to her finger during that argument.
”It was clear that Ms. Cross did not want to elaborate or provide clear accurate details about the December 2014 incident, the detective noted in his report.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Cross who, according to documents, tued himself into the Fulton County Jail on Feb. 27th. Online records indicated he bonded out the same day.
In the report, Cross’ wife told police she didn’t want to pursue charges against her husband, but the report stated that in Georgia, that is a decision that must be made by prosecutors, and not the alleged victim.
Cross told Channel 2's Petchenik he had an argument with his wife and he wishes the incident had not happened. He said they are working on their issues.
He said he has no plans to resign his position with the city council, unless it’s determined he should no longer serve.
