Albany Man Denevious Thomas, Dies In Police Custody
ALBANY, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into how an Albany man died while in the custody of Dougherty County police.
GBI Assistant special agent in charge Mark Pro said Tuesday that Denevious L. Thomas of Albany died after officer D. McMullen attempted a traffic stop early Tuesday, apparently after seeing Thomas' vehicle weaving.
Pro says Thomas attempted to flee, crashed into a wall and was tasered after he tried to get out of his car.
Pro says Thomas was placed in the back seat of the patrol car and appeared to be all right, but that he died before paramedics responding to the crash arrived.
The police department asked the GBI to investigate, and an autopsy is scheduled.
