5 dead after small jet crashes in McDuffie County

Authorities are investigating after a small jet crashed off the end of a runway after landing in easte Georgia near Augusta, killing five people and injuring two.

Thomson-McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall says the jet crashed after 8 p.m. Wednesday. He says the two survivors were taken to area hospitals. The identities of those killed are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Members of the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

A spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board says the Hawker Beechcraft 390/Premier I had departed from Nashville, Tenn., when it crashed just after landing at the Thomson-McDuffie County Airport, about 30 miles west of Augusta.

She says the aircraft is registered to a company based in Wilmington, Del.
