A 3-year-old Graniteville girl struck by a golf car driven by an Aiken Regional Medical Center security guard on Monday has died, Coroner Tim Carlton said today.

Police said the security guard was driving the vehicle when it struck the child in the parking lot of the Aiken hospital around 1:35 p.m.

Neither the driver nor the child have been identified by authorities.

The child was treated at the Aiken hospital before being transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:52 a.m.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety reconstruction team is investigating the incident.

”All of us here at the hospital are devastated by the accident that occurred yesterday afteoon, an Aiken Regional Medical Center statement read. ”...The investigation is in the hands of Aiken Public Safety and they will be providing you with more details as they become available.
