3 former school employees charged with sexual assault in Gwinnett Co.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
Villie Jones, Mikey Henderson and Ronnie Jackson are three former Gwinnett County Public Schools employees now charged with sexual assault.
We've learned in each case, the district sent letters home to parents explaining what was going on.
"She already told me about it so when I received it, I already knew," said parent Teresa Clark.
Clark's daughter goes to Meadowcreek High School, where Jackson is accused of kissing a student's groin three times. Her daughter said it's all everyone is talking about.
"They're just saying that's weird what happened and it's not normal."
Gwinnett County Public Schools employs 12,000 teachers. Spokesperson Bernard Watson said it's unfortunate the alleged actions of these three are overshadowing the good work being done in the district.
"Gwinnett County Public Schools does not and will not tolerate inappropriate relationships between teachers and students, and as you saw on all three cases, as soon as we found out about the allegations, our SROs launched an investigation and so did HR," says Watson.
All three men resigned, but they still face criminal charges. We reached out to psychiatrist David Purselle to ask how these incidents could happen. He said there are a number of reasons why an adult may seek out a relationship with a student.
"It could be control and dominance," he said. "It could be the lure of having an innocent person to have a relationship with, it could be something as simple as feeling unfulfilled at home."
As a parent, you may see some warning signs.
"Depression, anxiety, being more withdrawn, not wanting to go to school, not wanting to interact with others."
As for the suspects, Henderson and Jones are being held without bond. Jackson posted bond and was released from jail on the May 19.
