4th Person Surrenders In Shooting That Killed 13-Year-Old

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A fourth suspect has surrendered in a shooting that left a 13-year-old boy dead Wednesday afteoon. Three other people have already been arrested and charged in the shooting.

Georgia Newsdsy reporter said that the fourth suspect is 16 years old.

DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the shooting was sparked by an argument in a DeKalb County street. Investigators said they received a tip that the perpetrators went inside a house about three or four blocks from where the shooting happened.

Police carried out a search warrant at the residence on McAfee Road. The victim’s mother grieved over her son, Jeard Wheeler, as the scene unfolded.

”I’m thinking of my child right now, she said.

Parish said another person was injured in the shooting and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The other three suspects, James Fanning, 20, Viola Goodman, 52, and Shontonious Hawkins, 25, were charged with murder. Parish said police believe the fourth suspect is responsible for pulling the trigger.
