One person is dead and four others are hurt after a crash in Cherokee County late Tuesday night. The accident happened on Bells Ferry Road just north of Butterworth Road.

Investigators say the crash happened after a Cherokee County deputy saw a driver run a stop sign in the Bridgemill subdivision. They say the driver took off after the deputy tued on his lights.

Police say they did not give chase. The driver continued north on Bells Ferry Road, traveling about 1.5 miles. The deputy reached the area when a woman in the road flagged him down and told the deputy about the wreck.

Investigators say the driver crossed the center line and hit a vehicle traveling in the other direction.

Police identified the driver as Jemail Jones. They said that he had been in trouble earlier in the day, but would not provide further details.
