Zoo Atlanta is celebrating a new arrival. A weste lowland gorilla was bo at the zoo oveight Sunday.

The infant is the third offspring for its mother, 25-year-old Kuchi, and 20-year-old silverback Taz. In 2005, Kuchi gave birth to frateal twins named Kali and Kazi. Kuchi gained national attention as the only known gorilla in captivity to rear twins independently.

Kuchi also has two adult offspring, 19-year-old Stadi and 10-year-old Lulu.

"Kuchi has demonstrated over the years that she is a truly remarkable mother. We're excited about seeing her demonstrate those qualities with another new baby, and particularly about seeing Kali and Kazi interact with their new sibling," said Dr. Dwight Lawson, Senior Vice President of Collections, Education and Conservation at Zoo Atlanta.

Zoo Atlanta is home to the nation's largest collection of gorillas. This newbo is the 18th weste lowland gorilla bo at the Zoo since the Ford African Rain Forest Exhibit opened in 1988. Kuchi and her new infant are on exhibit now.
