SUGAR HILL, Ga. — A 21-year-old Georgia tree worker and young father is paralyzed after a falling tree branch struck him on the job.

What began as a routine workday quickly turned tragic for Evan Parker. While working at a tree site Friday, a dead branch suddenly broke loose and hit him in the head.

“In an instant, everything changed — he was left paralyzed from the shoulders down,” said his friend, Jake Richardson.

Parker remains hospitalized at Northside Gwinnett Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. Richardson said Parker is expected to require extensive medical care, long-term rehabilitation, and specialized equipment as he begins what will be a challenging recovery.

Family members say the road ahead will be difficult, both emotionally and financially. Friends and loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support Parker’s girlfriend and the couple’s 1-year-old son. As of this week, more than $10,000 has been raised.

“The costs for these essential needs are overwhelming, and his family is doing everything they can to support him,” Richardson said.

Parker’s family is expected to share more about his condition and recovery efforts on Channel 2 Action News starting at 4 p.m.
