Wrong-way driver slams into street sweeper on Ga. 400
A wrong-way crash shut down Ga. 400 for hours early Wednesday moing.
All lanes near Northridge Road have reopened after emergency workers cut a driver from a mangled car.
The car was going the wrong way when it crashed into a street sweeper truck and erupted into flames.
”I saw him, he just came off that ramp – he was driving, coming at me, truck driver William Forrester said.
Witnesses told Channel 2’s Darryn Moore that the driver of the car was traveling south on the northbound lanes at Northridge Road in Sandy Springs.
”After the impact, I saw flames coming from the front part of the car, witness Charles Edwards said.
Firefighters cut the roof off the car to rescue the driver trapped inside. Forrester was also trapped in his truck.
The driver of the car was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Forrester was not injured.
The crash shut down the northbound lanes for hours and backed up traffic for more than three miles.
