Crews work to rescue a man who became trapped under a piece of machinery at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday, August 2, 2011

An employee trapped under a hydraulic lift Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Inteational Airport has died.

A man working in the North Cargo area was involved in the accident around 4 p.m., said Katena Carvajales, the airport's media relations manager.

He was extricated from the scene but did not survive, she said. His name has not been released.

Contrary to earlier reports, there was no structure collapse, she said.

Atlanta police and firefighters responded to the scene and attempted to rescue the man.

Airport operations have not been affected.
