Woman Walking To Bus Stop Sexually Assaulted
CLARKSTON, Ga. -- A woman was dragged into a wooded area by an unknown man who, she said, sexually assaulted her.
It happened at about 7 a.m. Wednesday in DeKalb County as the victim was heading to a MARTA bus stop on North Indian Creek Drive in Clarkston.
The victim told investigators that a man came from the woods, dragged her through the trees and sexually assaulted her. The victim was taken 30 to 40 feet into the wooded area, police said.
Someone on a passing bus saw what was happening and called 911, police said.
When GA Daily News reporter Kerry Kavanaugh arrived at the intersection of North Indian Creek and Memorial College Avenue, she saw police carrying a bag of evidence.
Police said the 49-year-old woman was coming out of the woods when they arrived at the scene.
"They need to cut these trees down because this is dangerous for the young teenage girls (and) … also anybody who's standing out here," said Robbin Simpson, who lives nearby.
Police Told Kavanaugh that the incident was likely a crime of opportunity, but some residents who spoke to Channel 2 now fear for worse.
"Somebody could grab a child or anybody and pull them in that bush and do whatever they want to them," Simpson said.
"I think they really need to put some fences around or something," said resident Deion Heron.
Police said they always encourage people, especially women, to use some sort of buddy system when walking at night or in the early moing hours.
Police said they are working leads and hope to make and arrest soon.
