Woman robbed at gunpoint in midtown Atlanta

Residents in midtown Atlanta are on alert after police say someone robbed a woman at gunpoint, taking her purse, iPhone and laptop bag.

Police said around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the woman was walking to her house after parking at 8th Street near Argonne Avenue when a man walked up and pointed a gun at her demanding her belongings. They said the man ran off. Neighbor Zoe Levine told reporters she's on edge.

"I just kind of freaked out a little bit," Levine said.

She walks her dog early in the moing and late at night. Levine told Georgia Newsday she doesn't carry valuables with her to prevent being a target for thieves. In Tuesday's robbery, the thief took an iPhone with GPS tracking, but police said the phone was tued off.

Levine said she walks with Mace when she walks her dog.

"I was a little bit nervous I was holding my Mace a little bit tighter, I was holding him a little bit tighter," she added.

Also Tuesday evening, around the same time, police responded to an armed robbery on Northside Drive. They said two men held up a Georgia Tech student in his apartment parking garage. There were several patrol cars in the area near 8th Street Thursday evening. Police told Georgia Newsday they increased their presence in the neighborhoods.
