Police: Business owner Andrew Shin, robber Diante Doby die in Duluth shopping center shootout
A Stone Mountain woman has been arrested after a shootout during a late night robbery on Monday which took the lives of her boyfriend and the business owner he tried to rob.
Police said that 52 –year –old Andrew Shin of Dunwoody and his wife, 53 –year –old Soyoun Ahn, were locking up their business on Steve Reynolds Boulevard shortly before midnight when they were approached by a man wearing a dark colored hoodie and a white mask. The man was armed with a silver and black handgun who demanded money.
The victim’s wife said that she hid behind an SUV, heard gunshots and then saw her husband fall onto the sidewalk in front of their business. She then saw the robber crawling toward a dark colored passenger car, got into the backseat and the driver sped away.
The driver was identified as 22-year-old Kendra Yvonne Gates of Stone Mountain. She called the police after being told by her boyfriend 22-year-old Diante Doby. Shin died in front of his business and Doby was pronounced dead at the McDonald’s where Gates had called the police from. Gates has been arrested on armed robbery and could be facing additional charges at a later time.
