Winds Leave Homes in North Georgia Without Power in Frigid Ga. Cold
ATLANTA - North Georgia is getting blasted by a combination of frigid temperatures and high winds, and forecasters say more is on the way.
Electric utilities say about 2,000 businesses and homes were left without electricity as winds gusting to more than 30 mph blew through metro Atlanta, knocking trees on to power lines as temperatures dipped into the mid-teens. Wind chill readings dipped to around 5 degrees at times.
A few roads had scattered icy spots early Monday, although no major traffic problems are being reported.
The National Weather Service says Tuesday moing will be frigid, too. Lows are expected in the mid-teens by daybreak, threatening records dating back more than 90 years.
