Vigil held for slain former GSU soccer player Ayokunle Lumpkin
Investigators say Ayokunle Lumpkin was fatally shot early Sunday moing on Milton Avenue. According to police, Lumpkin was chasing a hit-and-run driver who hit a woman's car outside a party in southeast Atlanta.
At the candlelight vigil held at Sprayberry High School, friends cried and shared memories of Lumpkin.
"He was so excited about life. Every moing he would wake up and just be happy," said his girlfriend Lauren Gaffney.
Ayokunle's sister, Tulo, said he died trying to do the right thing.
"He died a hero…He wasn't afraid of anything. He was really strong. He did what was right for everyone," said Tulo Lumpkin.
Ayokunle Lumpkin had dreamed of being a professional soccer player.
Police found the car that Lumpkin was chasing after when he was shot. No arrests have been made in the case.
Lumpkin's funeral will be next week
