SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. -- A Spalding County woman was lying dead in her home for up to two weeks, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Her husband has been charged with murder.

Deputies made the discovery Sunday evening after they were called to a home on Baesville Drive on a welfare check. A relative let them inside the home.

”When they checked the residence, they did detect a very foul odor and later, they did find a woman deceased laying in the living room on the sofa," Spalding County Sheriff’s Capt. Tony Ranieri told Channel 2’s George Howell.

But the woman’s husband was nowhere to be found, and he hadn’t been seen in two weeks, Ranieri said. Investigators said they were conceed about his welfare and wondered if he had been forced out of his home. On Monday moing, 65-year-old Veon Jones was found safe at a Griffin motel. He was arrested and charged in his wife’s killing.

Young’s wife’s body was too badly decomposed for detectives to establish a cause of death, but they said she had been dead for 10 to 14 days. An autopsy later revealed she had been shot twice.

Neighbors described the couple as ”loners but said they were good neighbors.
