A Riverdale couple’s van with a wheelchair lift was stolen from their carport, and now the husband is pleading for the thief or thieves to do the right thing.

Alfred Kenney, 79, says he’s always done things the right way. He spent most of his life working at the Hapeville Ford Plant. He’s now retired, and he can’t afford a new wheelchair accessible van for his wife. He told FOX 5 he wants what is his back.

It's been nearly a week since Mr. Kenney woke up to find his van missing. The 79 year old says the black tire tracks on his Riverdale driveway are all that thieves left behind.

”I’ve just been waiting, hoping the police would find it, Kenney told FOX 5.

The reason the 1988 Chevy van is so special is because it's the only way his wife, Christine Kenney, can get around. A car accident left her with severe brain damage decades ago, and the 76 year old cannot talk or walk. Her wheelchair only fits in the accessible van.

”It has a wheelchair lift in it, and we take my wife to the doctor’s, and sometimes just out for a ride, said Mr. Kenney.

Mrs. Kenney was supposed to visit the doctor on Thursday, but she couldn't even get out of their driveway without the van. They had to cancel the appointment.

Mr. Kenney says this is just the first of several appointments he and his wife may have to cancel.

While Mr. Kenney reported the theft to the police, he says he's hoping whoever took the van has a conscience and retus it.

Caretakers are now working to get temporary transportation. The stolen van is a brown 1988 Chevrolet with Georgia tags. It has a handicapped tag on the rear mirror.
