TROUP COUNTY, Ga.  — Authorities are searching for a 20-year-old inmate accused of child molestation who escaped from the Troup County Jail early Sunday, officials said.

Christian Joel Marcos Cortez was last seen about 4:42 a.m. Sunday on jail grounds, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office said. Cortez was being held on a child molestation charge stemming from his June 2025 arrest.

Cortez is described as about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and black-and-white striped pants, deputies said. It was not immediately clear how he escaped custody.

Anyone who spots Cortez should call 911 immediately, authorities said.
