A state network of expressway toll lanes is expected to get its start on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County. Work is expected to begin on a 15-mile project later this summer following a vote on Thursday moing by the state transportation board.

The vote means the HOV lanes of I-85 are on track to become electronic toll lanes. Electronic transponders would be used by drivers to pay for the tolls, which would be set up between Spaghetti Junction and Old Peachtree Road.

GDOT says tolls will change depending on highway congestion.

Construction is set to begin next month, with toll lanes to open next summer. If the plan works, more toll lanes of this kind are expected in other areas.
