Three people shot at Lone Star College in North Harris County
A wounded man was taken from the library on a stretcher after a shooting at Lone Star College in North Harris County.

Police were responding Tuesday to reports of a gunman opening fire at a Texas college. Unconfirmed reports aid multiple people were shot.

Investigators said the shooting happened at the North Harris campus of Lone Star College near Houston. The school has posted a notice on its website about the shooting.

At least three people, including a suspect, were shot, KHOU-TV reported, citing deputy constables. The report could not immediately be independently confirmed.

"We know that shots have been fired and we are in a shelter-in-place situation on the campus," Vicki Cassidy, manager of media relations for Lone Star College System, told The Houston Chronicle. "It's a pretty chaotic scene at this point in time."

"I heard somebody screaming and after that I heard the shots," one witness on campus told KPRC. The witness said he tried to call 911 but couldn't get through.

Dozens of law enforcement officers were searching a wooded area north of the campus for a second suspect, KHOU reported.

The campus is one of six that makes up the Lone Star community college system.
