Teen, Mom Could Face Felony Charges in Accident that Killed Teacher Shireen Haynes
Prosecutors will meet with police on Wednesday to decide if a teenage driver and her mother should face felony vehicular homicide charges in connection with the death of a Sandtown Middle School teacher.

Prosecutors will meet with police on Wednesday to decide if a teenage driver and her mother should face felony vehicular homicide charges.

Earlier this week the girl was involved in an accident that claimed the life of teacher.

"The daughter was following the mother, said Det. Melissa Parker of Fulton County Police.

Additional charges could be filed against a mother and daughter as a result of a fatal accident that claimed the life of a Fulton county teacher.

According to police, the teen driver never should've been driving without an adult in the car when she allegedly lost control and hit Shireen Haynes' vehicle.

That sent the 40-year-old Sandtown Middle School teacher's car into the oncoming lane of traffic where it collided with a semi. The accident claimed Haynes' life. Another Sandtown teacher and her husband, who were riding with the victim, were critically injured.

"Tomorrow the investigators will be meeting with the D.A.'s office and there is a possibility that they will both be charged with vehicular homicide, said Parker.

Police say the girl was driving on a restricted license and should've had an adult monitoring her driving.

Instead, authorities say, there was another teen in the car at the time of the accident.

Right now the young driver faces traffic charges and her mother is accused of letting an unauthorized driver operate a vehicle.

"Apparently the mother had taken the daughter to a location where they had another vehicle and was going to have her daughter drive that vehicle back to where ever they were going, said Parker

"Everything that she wanted was to focus around her mom, her children and her husband," said substitute teacher Janet Mack.

Sandtown parent and teachers were stunned to hear of Haynes' death.

Janet Mack regularly ate lunch with her and the other teacher injured in the accident.

"She'd talk about her family. We'd have lunch. It's just a really heartbreaking thing for us here at the school. I've been really saddened about it, said Mack.

The teen is facing a count of failure to maintain lane, driving on a restricted license, as well as a suspended registration. Her mother is facing a count of allowing an unauthorized driver to operate a vehicle.
