Teen Johlanda Lindsey dead, 3 injured heading to prom after-party

A teen is dead after a trip to a prom after-party took a devastating tu that has loved ones struggling to cope with the girl's sudden loss.

Johlanda Lindsey died in a Sunday moing car crash that hurt three others along Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Beaver Ruin Road in Gwinnett County.

Channel 2's Amanda Cook went to Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, where classmates held a candlelight vigil for Lindsey, a member of the school's track team.

Friends told Cook there were several students from the school involved in this incident, most of them athletes. Three of them were injured while Lindsey lost her life.

"I was just like, 'You're lying, you're lying,'" an emotional Gisele Lopez explained about the phone call she got about her best friend's death. "But it tued out to be true."

"She was like 'there was a car accident and Johlanda and them were in there. I didn't want to believe them. It's not true," Lopez said.

On Sunday, a cross was placed at the crash site. Pieces of the cars are still scattered everywhere around it.

Gwinnett Police said one car crossed the center line on Steve Reynolds and hit another car. Friends said both cars were filled with Meadowcreek students.

Police said Lindsey died on impact. Another student is in critical condition and two others were injured.

"A couple of teenagers (were) racing," Lopez said. "The guy that was driving didn't slow down at the yield. He lost control of the car."

Police did not identify the driver at fault, but did say he is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide.

A crisis team will be at the school Monday moing.
