GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Greensboro teen was killed by a fallen power line brought down when the car he was driving crashed into a power pole early Sunday.

Police said the incident began when 17-year-old Dontrice Fewell crashed a 2002 Chrysler into a power pole while driving north on Summit Avenue in Greensboro at about 1:21 a.m.

The power pole and the power lines fell to the ground due to the force of the collision, police said.

Investigators said Fewell and passenger Richard Rios, 16, got out of the vehicle and attempted to crawl under the live power lines when they were electrocuted.

Fewell was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Rios was taken to Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries. His condition has not yet been released.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
