Teen Brent Creagh arrested in police shootout

Atlanta police officers responding to a report of shots fired in Southwest Atlanta found themselves in a shootout Wednesday night, according to a spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department.

Police said they received a call of shots fired just before 9 p.m. in the area of Godfrey Drive in southwest Atlanta. When officers arrived, they said, a person began firing at them.

"That male actually  opened fire on the patrol car and struck it several times," John Chaffe of the Atlanta Police Department said.

According to Officer John Chafee with APD’s Public Affairs Unit, officers exchanged fire.  He said no one was hit, but bullets from the suspect did hit an officer's patrol vehicle.

"The male took off running. Officers gave chase and were able to capture him," Chaffe said.

Police took a 19-year-old Brent Creagh into custody on three counts of aggravated assault and several other felony charges. Police said Creagh was wanted by authorities in connection to an assault in Cobb County.

No one was injured in the shootout.
