Teacher Laurie Peavy Accused of Duct-taping Student Sentenced
Laurie Peavy, a former Woodstock High teacher, pleaded guilty to duct-taping an autistic boy to a chair and confining a blind girl under a desk.

CANTON, Ga. - Authorities say a Woodstock High School teacher accused of duct-taping an autistic boy to a chair and confining a girl under a desk has been sentenced to six years of probation and $2,000 in fines.

Authorities say 45-year-old Laurie Peavy pleaded guilty to false imprisonment in the case.

At her sentencing Monday before Superior Court Judge Frank C. Mills III, Peavy agreed to surrender her teaching certificate and not apply for another one elsewhere.

The Cherokee County clerk’s office said she also agreed not to do volunteer work or seek a job where she would be working with children.

Peavys attoey, J. Daran Bus, could not be reached. Peavy has been on leave without pay from the Cherokee County school system since her arrest.

Nancy Cheek was not prosecuted in exchange for her testimony against Peavy.
