Tax Cheat Guillermo Merino Busted By Federal Agents In Gainesville
Guillermo Merino Was Caught With Nearly A Half Million Dollars In Cash

Federal and local authorities say a Gainesville man was filing tax retus for undocumented workers and pocketing the proceeds.

When Guillermo Merino was arrested Friday, police said he was carrying more than $53,000. They found another $412,000 in currency when they searched his home.

Officials say Merino, 34, would take an illegal immigrants’ identification information, file their taxes and keep all the money for himself.

Merino is also in the United States illegally. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him for possible deportation.
