SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Sandy Springs Police Department said a Florida couple with a history of burglarizing elderly homeowners by pretending to be State workers has been charged

Authorities say the two went to a home on Mount Paran Road in October and the woman identified as Dina Miller, 48, told the 77-year-old homeowner they were there from Georgia Power and needed to check the electrical wires in the backyard. While they were outside, a man identified as George DeMetro, 42, went inside the home and burglarized it, said Sgt. Sam Worsham.

Police said the got a huge break in January when a man named George Demetro dropped his wallet during a similar burglary in Cobb County.

”We got information from a pawn shop in Houston, Texas, that had a recorded sale from Mr. Demetro, said Worsham.  ”He pawned 63 items of jewelry and received a check for $4,000.

Worsham said police arrested Demetro and his wife, Dina Miller, on burglary and elder exploitation charges. They were extradited to Georgia last week.

”They have ties to several other burglaries that have happened in several other states, said Worsham, who told Petchenik that police in Roswell, Cobb County and Lowndes County are working to connect the pair to similar crimes that occured there.

Miller is being held in the Fulton County jail without bond.  Records show DeMetro, of Orlando, Florida, has bonded out of the Fulton County jail.
