Cartersville police arrested a suspected shoplifter who stabbed a Walmart loss prevention officer who confronted her about stealing from the store.

The Investigators report revealed that Walmart asset protection employee Johnny "Wayne" Thacker approached a female customer who was exiting the store without paying for merchandise. Thacker identified himself and that's when the suspect, Katrena Evans, stabbed him in the stomach and fled, according to the report.

As the suspect took off, an off-duty Acworth police department investigator was driving in a nearby parking lot and saw Evans running. She heard a Walmart employee yell, "She's running and getting into the car."

Evans allegedly jumped into the back seat of a vehicle that had stopped to witness what was going on. The off-duty officer boxed in the vehicle and detained the suspect for Bartow County law enforcement.

Police said they recovered stolen items and a multi-tool with the knife opened in the back seat.

Evans, who is homeless, was arrested and booked into the Bartow County. She faces aggravated assault, obstruction and shoplifting charges in connection with the incident.

Thacker was treated at Cartersville Medical Center and released, police said.
