Australian surfer Mick Fanning was forced to fight off a shark after it reportedly flipped him off his board during an event.

Fanning is a triple world champion surfer and has eaed the nickname ‘White Lightening' because of his speed in the water.

And the 34-year-old had to show incredible reactions after tussling with a shark during the J-Bay Open event at the World Surf League in South Africa.

The shark apparently flipped Fanning off his board and he is then shown fighting to get away from it during crazy scenes.

Australia TV carried video of the incident and Fanning told FOX Sports afterwards that he ‘punched the shark in the back' to escape.

What a boss!
