Study says more than two hours of homework is useless

Homework may not be doing kids much good. Researchers in Australia discovered that hitting the books at home offered no real benefit to children and only slightly helped junior high students.

They also reported that only students in grades 11 and 12 significantly profited from after-school work. Dr. Richard Walker of Sydney University's Education Faculty told The Telegraph that no one "except senior high school students should be doing a couple of hours of homework."

He added, "There are other things kids want to do that are very valuable things for them to be doing." But before kids can rejoice, Walker does say that a small amount of homework does help kids become "self-directed leaers."
