According to Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam, 36-year-old Joshua Akins was charged with simple battery after a student filed a complaint.

Police arrested a Spalding High School teacher accused of hitting a 15-year-old student. The Spalding County Sheriff said 36-year-old Joshua Akins was charged with simple battery after the student filed a complaint.

The student reported the inappropriate conduct to the principal, saying Akins hit her with a bottle on her buttocks. Then the principal reported the incident to the school resource officer.

An investigation was launched which eventually resulted in a warrant being issued for Akins.

The sheriff says Beam leaed of the warrant and tued himself in. He was later released on bond.
