Police said an 11-year-old boy was shot in the back while on the sidewalk in the 900 block of Washington Street.

Officials said the boy was conscious and alert when he was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"I just heard a pop sound like some kids play around here all the time, you know throwing rocks at one another. It just sounded like a rock had hit the house," said neighbor Lakitta Grier.

Investigators said the shooting happened at about 8 p.m. Friday outside the Juanita's Place apartments.

Witnesses said another child might have been involved in the shooting.

Authorities said that they are not quite sure if the bullet came from inside or outside the apartments.

Authorities are investigating the shooting, but do not have a suspect or a motive at this time.
