Smyrna Police employee Shannon Pope arrested for stealing personal information
SMYRNA, Ga. – A crime analyst with the Cobb County police has been arrested for stealing personal information.
Authorities say 38-year-old Shannon Pope is accused of stealing information without authorization including driver’s licenses and mobile data of 28 victims, beginning in June 2016, Cobb County Sheriff's Office Lt. Col. Robert Quigley said.
Pope, a 17-year veteran of the Smyrna Police Department has been charged with 31 counts of computer theft. She posted a $3,500 bond and was released on June 21 pending trial.
Pope was hired in April 2000, but subsequently terminated on June 2 after her alleged theft.
According to human resources records, she was a court services/probation clerk in 2000, a records clerk in September 2000 with title change to central records assistant. She became a crime data specialist in 2014.
There is no record of any previous disciplinary actions filed with the human resources department.
