Smokers spared from seeing horrific images on packs

Tobacco companies won't have to put graphic images on cigarette packages, thanks to a judge's ruling. A federal mandate had been in place that would have forced cigarette makers to ado packs with repulsive images, such as a sewn-up corpse, a horrifically diseased mouth, and a man smoking through a tracheostomy tube, but a U.S. District judge decided it violated the free speech rights of tobacco companies.

The FDA had argued that the public danger of smoking outweighed those rights. The govement is appealing the decision.
