ALBANY, Ga. - A long line of police moued the loss of a Dougherty County officer killed in the line of duty.

Police Lt. Cliff Rouse was laid to rest Tuesday during a funeral at Gillionville Baptist Church in Albany. He was fatally shot Thursday while investigating a convenience store robbery.

The 39-year-old Rouse leaves behind a wife and two children.

WALB-TV reports that nearly 1,000 law enforcement officers, friends and family attended the service and burial. Rouse's family members embraced several of those officers before the funeral.

Metter Police Chief Bobby Hooper called Rouse a by-the-book man who was well liked.

A 20-year-old suspect, Dontavius Raynard Thomas, has been charged with Rouse's killing.
