Charges are pending against a woman accused of hoarding nearly 130 animals in her Cherokee County home. The animals that were rescued from the home are now being cared for at Cherokee County Animal Control.

Authorities say 127 dogs and cats were removed from Shari Cahill’s Canton home. Among those were 113 cats and 14 dogs, all of which are being cared for at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, and authorities say many of them were in need of medical care.

The Cherokee County Marshals Office says they received a complaint about a kennel being run out of the home on Sugar Mill Lane, and that there was a bad odor coming from the home. On September 14, marshals entered the home with a search warrant, and once inside they immediately found the home to be littered with animal feces and a strong odor of animal urine.

Authorities along with two local veterinarians entered the home and removed the 127 animals. They say there were also 23 dead cats found inside, and one dead dog was removed from the house.

Cherokee County Chief Marshal Ray Waters told FOX 5 the conditions inside the home were the most deplorable he's ever seen.  He said feces and trash filled the rooms, and many of the animals were suffering from dehydration and respiratory problems.  Shelter workers said one of the dogs found has no hair and serious skin issues, while other animals have swollen feet and problems with their nails.

Criminal charges are said to be pending against Cahill, FOX 5 has leaed.
