‘Sexist’ washing labels land sportswear company in hot water
A sportswear manufacturer has apologised for this sexist message

A sportswear company which printed labels on football shirts telling owners to ‘give this shirt to a woman' to wash it has apologised.

Indonesian firm Salvo Sports sparked a wave of criticism – on Inteational Women's Day, of all days – over the sexist instructions.

Washing instructions printed on the shirts of top-flight Indonesian Super League side Pusamania Boeo said: ‘Washing instructions: Give this shirt to a woman. It's her job.'

But after a barrage of criticism, it claimed not to have meant any offence.

A posting on the company's Twitter account said: ‘The message is simply, instead of washing it in the wrong way, you might as well give it to a lady because they are more capable'

And the sportswear firm continued: ‘There is no intention to humiliate women. In contrast [we want to tell the men] lea from women how to take care of clothes'
