Former Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves has been charged with an alleged sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman, according to the The Detroit News.

Cleaves, 39, has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The incident allegedly took place after a September golf outing when Cleaves and others gathered to get drinks at a bar. Afterwards, Cleaves took the woman to a motel where he reportedly held the woman against her will. She was able to escape from the room and received assistance from another woman nearby.

Cleaves' attoey expects his client to be cleared.

Cleaves was a member of the 2000 Spartans team that won the NCAA Championship. He briefly played in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers and Seattle Supersonics.

After retiring, he joined Fox Sports Detroit as a Pistons analyst and currently works as an analyst for CBS Sports on SiriusXM.
