DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 31-year-old man who friends say was working as a mail carrier was shot and killed Thursday in DeKalb County, authorities confirmed.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Dequavious Graves. Officials said he died from his injuries.
Friends said Graves worked for the United States Postal Service and was killed while on duty. They described him as passionate about his job and proud to serve his community. In addition to his work as a postal employee, friends said Graves was a music producer and a creative force among those who knew him.
They remembered him as a “model citizen,” an “artistic genius,” and a loyal friend. Many affectionately called him “Big Quay.”
“The world was robbed of a great human,” one friend said.
In a statement, a Postal Service spokesperson said the agency was “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Postal family member with three years of service in a fatal incident on February 12.” The statement added that counseling services would be made available to employees at the Wesley Chapel Post Office as the investigation continues.
The DeKalb County Police Department said it is investigating the shooting. Officials said additional details would be released as the investigation develops.
No further information was immediately available.
