Henry County police are trying to identify six people involved in an elaborate check forgery ring, including a man who posted his own picture on the Inteet.

A woman whose car was broken into while parked at a day care center in McDonough said thieves stole her checks and a smartphone when they stole her purse. The group then used the victim’s checks and bank account number to empty thousands of dollars out of her account at several banks in metro Atlanta and in Florida.

”We have information coming in from Florida and probably all throughout the East Coast, 'This is what's going on,'" said Sgt. Mike Ireland. ”These five individuals are also using other victim’s information in the metro Atlanta area where vehicles have been broken into.

Police aren’t sure if all of the suspects are connected to a man who took a picture of himself with a victim’s smartphone. The phone automatically posted that picture on the victim’s Facebook page.

”This is probably one of the best pictures I’ve seen, said Ireland. ”To have a camera phone picture is pretty interesting.

Henry County police ask that people call them if they recognize anyone involved in the thefts.
