DeKalb County police say they were forced to kill a man chasing customers at a Decatur gas station with a knife

DeKalb County police said they shot a knife-wielding man at a Decatur gas station Sunday moing.

The incident happened on Glenwood Road near Interstate 285 around 8:30 a.m. Police said the man entered the Chevron gas station with a knife and began chasing customers inside. At least one person escaped through a back door and another ran through the front door.

Two DeKalb officers, including one in training, were flagged down by a woman and confronted the armed man.

”Several orders, or instructions, were given to this man to drop the knife. He refused, and the officers at that point fired on the gentleman, DeKalb Public Safety Director Wiz Miller told Channel 2’s Ashley Swann.

The man was taken to Grady Hospital and died. Police have yet to identify him.
