Police Seek Gunman Who Shot APD Officer Dexter Toomer
Atlanta police are still trying to find the gunman who shot one of their own late Thursday night. An officer was on break, walking to his car, when police say gunshots came from out of nowhere.
The shooting occurred in Little Five Points. The officer was hit in the leg.
There were reports of an arrest early Friday moing. However, Atlanta Police Officer Officer Kim Jones said in a release that the "department has not made any arrest of any suspects involved in the shooting of the officer."
According to Jones, there was an arrest made Thursday night during the incident but it was not related to the officer's shooting.
”We walked out on the patio and there was chaos out here and you knew it was something different than just living in the city, said witness Jay Winter.
Several witnesses say they heard multiple shots fired at the intersection of Moreland and Euclid Avenues at around 10:30 p.m.

Injured in the hail of bullets was one Atlanta police officer who had stopped in the area for a break.
”Over all the noise, all of a sudden we heard pop, pop, pop, pop, pop! Like really loud, very distinct seven shots. We're used to loud noises in the city and something about that wasn't right, said Winter.
”As if I had a heart attack, I just froze, I didn't know what to do, said witness Tony Hulsey.
Security guard Tony Hulsey says several people told him they saw a gunman run from the area after the gunshots.
”They say he took off running through this restaurant with a gun in his hand, said Hulsey.
”There was an officer in close proximity that was responding to another call. He actually heard multiple gunshots and within moments the officer struck by the gunfire came over the radio and advised he had been struck by gunfire, said Lt. Paul Guerrucci of the Atlanta Police Department.
That officer was eventually joined by many more -- questioning people in the bar and restaurant district to ask them for any information on a gunman whom it's believed fired from across the street.
”It appears the intended target was the officer, said Guerrucci.
Paramedics rushed the injured officer to Grady Memorial Hospital. Authorities say he's listed in stable condition.
Police say they are continuing to interview witnesses.
