Police Say Mac Mayer Killed Protecting Mom From Robber In DeKalb County

A man was shot and killed Wednesday night trying to protect his mother from a robber.
Police told Georgia Newsday the mother, the owner of the Belvedere Theater at 1246 Columbia Drive, had just locked up for the night when she was approached by an armed man.
As the robber tried to grab her purse, Mac Mayer, 36, the woman's son, came to her rescue.
"When the son tried to intervene, he was shot," said DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.
Mayer was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where he died Thursday morning.
Police are searching for the suspect.
