Police say Fairburn woman Beverly Bland was strangled before fatal fire
Beverly Bland

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- Investigators said a woman who was found dead after a house fire last weekend actually died from strangulation.

The bodies of Beverly Bland and a man were found in the wreckage after her home went up in flames Aug. 27.

Investigators have not released the identity of the other person who died in the fire, but said the man died from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the home near the coer of Garvey Drive and Milam Road in South Fulton County after neighbors heard an explosion from the home.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they said it was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said they smelled gasoline while they were working to put out the flames.

So far, police have not named any suspects in the case.
