A Doraville police officer accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash has now been fired.  Officer Kasey Lindsey had been on administrative leave with pay since his arrest last Saturday moing. "Our chief holds us to a very high standard," said Officer Gene Callaway, a Doraville police spokesman.

Lindsey had only worked as a Doraville officer since January. He was assigned to the uniform patrol division.

"We're here to enforce the law. We're not above it. Just the fact that he had an accident and put someone in the hospital, that elevated the incident," said Callaway.

According to a DeKalb police report, Lindsey first told investigators he'd fallen asleep at the wheel when he rear-ended Jenny Neal, 69, on Memorial Drive at around 7:45 a.m.

Records showed Lindsey repeatedly tried to show investigating officers his badge. Then, they smelled alcohol on him and Lindsey admitted he'd been drinking at a Doraville strip club, records said.

"We try to act professional in everything that we do, personally and when we're on duty. Sometimes people fall short and they have to face the consequences for their actions," said Callaway.

DeKalb police said Lindsey failed a field sobriety test, putting his foot down four times when he was supposed to stand on one leg. The test only lasted seven seconds because Lindsey stopped counting, and placed his hands behind his back.

A breath test an hour and a half after the crash showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15.  Officers said Lindsey told them, ”This is going to be the easiest DUI arrest you'll ever have.

"We work very hard at Doraville to make sure we're living up to the public's opinion, and when something happens and we fail to do that, we all take responsibility for it," said Callaway.

Lindsey is facing four misdemeanor charges, including DUI, following too closely and not having valid registration or proof of insurance.

Investigative reporter Jodie Fleischer called Lindsey, but he said he had no comment about his arrest.
