Police are looking for the person that struck and killed a man with a car in northwest Atlanta late Saturday night.

Atlanta police said Walter Amey, 54, was riding his bike along Abner Place just before 9 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car.

Accident investigation teams went to the scene to try and piece together what happened.

A neighbor in the area said she heard the incident and went outside to see what was going on.

Family members said Walter Amey loved to bike and run, and was well liked in the neighborhood.

"Like something, something fell. That's what I thought had happened, something fell," the woman said, asking not to be identified. "The only thing I saw the paramedics out there and I saw the police cars out there. I started wondering what happened and I saw the young man lying on the ground."

Family members told Channel 2’s Rachel Stockman that Amey was biking home from a friend’s house when he was struck.

"Everybody knew him. Everybody loved him. I just can't see how anybody could just leave him like that," Amey's daughter, Monica Amey, said.

They described Amey as a very athletic man who loved to bike and run, and was well liked in the neighborhood.

”I know everybody has a conscience and I would ask them to at least come forward, say what you did. There is an innocent man who had family, a daughter, and he was taken, Monica Amey said.

Atlanta police were trying to figure out if speed was also a factor in the incident.

Amey was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
